Women In Sound 2025

Completed

The Foundation's 'Women in Sound' initiative nurtures early-career female sound engineers and performers with a skills-based workshop run by an industry professional leading to work experience in a festival environment.
Project History
Having noticed the barriers facing women wishing to pursue a career in event tech, we set up the initiative to provide opportunities for them to develop skills, build confidence and get hands on experience in a live setting, mentored and guided along the way.

Project Aims
The project aimed to offer development opportunities consisting of:
- Practical, skills-based, weekend workshops with industry professionals
- Experience of the festival environment working with professional artists
Participants would learn how to:
- Preparing a stage
- Engineering a live performance
- Improving technical knowledge and skills
- Working with professional performers in a high-pressure environment
Delivery
We ran a 2 day weekend course in May designed to take students with a basic understanding of sound tech to the point of being able to engineer a live performance in a festival setting. The course covered each element of the live process, from setting up a front of house PA, to micing the stage and mixing the results and participants gained hands-on experience with all the equipment used to put on an exterior show.
In addition all participants worked at least one shift at the ALSO Festival, mentored by industry professionals.
